The driver-side SAM control unit is located in the left front control unit box in the engine compartment.

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:

Direct line
The following components are read in via a direct line:
- Coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
- Refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)

- Outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14)
- Rotary light switch (S1)
- Brake fluid indicator switch (S11)
- Parking brake switch (S12)
- Backup lamp switch (S16/2) (with transmission 716)
- Coolant level indicator switch (S41)
- Windshield washer system fluid level indicator switch (S42)

Interior CAN
The driver-side SAM control unit reads in function-relevant information via the interior CAN.

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Control of systems
The driver-side SAM control unit controls the following systems:
- Exterior lights [ABL]
- Control unit box ventilation (with engine 113.989)
- Wiper system (WSA)
- Headlamp cleaning system (SRA) (with code (600) headlamp cleaning system)
- Washer fluid hose/windshield washer system heater (with code (875) Heated windshield washer system)
- Footwell illumination (with code (876) interior light package)
