Campaign - Update Transmission Control Module Software

SUBJECT: Model 216, 221 Model Year 2011

Update Transmission Control Module Software

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the Transmission Control Module software may not meet current specifications on affected vehicles. Dealers will update the Transmission Control Module software at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 609 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

Note:
^ Use DAS/Xentry 05-06/2011 with Add-On 1806 or higher.

^ Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.

^ Connect battery charger

^ Turn off all of vehicle's electrical consumers prior to updating control module software.

^ If you are performing this campaign on a vehicle that also requires the following campaigns:

P-SC-2011070001 and P-SC-2011070002, perform the campaigns in the following order: 1st: SCN Code Control Module (P-SC-2011070002), 2nd: this campaign (P-SC-2011070003), last: Update Fuel System Control Module Software (P-SC-2011070001).

A. Model 216.394

1. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle.

2. Perform software update in fully integrated transmission control unit (VGSNAG2):

Control units view / Drive / Transmission / Control unit adaptations / Control unit programming.

3. Follow on-screen instructions.

Note:
Perform service work on other vehicles while the software for the control module is being updated.

B. Models 216.374, 221.174

1. Star Diagnosis to vehicle.

2. Perform software update in Electronic transmission control (722.9 7G-Tronic control module):

Adaptations / Control unit programming.

3. Perform software update in engine electronics control unit (MED177AMG):

Note:
If this does not occur automatically following the software update of the transmission control unit, select the following menu items Control units view / Engine electronics (MED177AMG) / Adaptations / Control unit programming.

4. Perform adaptation of the wet start-up clutch (NAK) if necessary (frame around the gear range flashes):

Adaptations / Performing adaptation (Wet start-up clutch (NAK)) (turn ignition switch to position 2 "ignition-ON" when instructed to do so in SDS on-screen instruction).

Note:
^ Perform service work on other vehicles while the software for the control module is being updated.

^ A transmission fluid temperature of 40°C is not required for teaching in the NAK.

Note:
^ The following allowable labor operation(s) should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:

^ If you are performing this campaign on a vehicle that also requires the following campaigns: P-SC-2011070001 and P-SC-2011070002; you can only claim operation numbers 02-5058 and 02-4762 once.
