Location
The EIS control module is located in the instrument panel in the area of the steering column.

General
The EIS control module serves as limited Gateway between the controller area network bus class B (interior compartment) (CAN-B) and the controller area network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) to exchange data, which are not relayed by the central gateway control module (N93)

Tasks
^ Check and control access authorization
^ Encrypted bi-directional infrared communication to transmitter key (A8/1)
^ Transmission of authentication values for drive authorization stage 3 (DAS 3) to enable the electric steering lock control module (N26/5), the ME-SFI control module (N3/10) (on vehicles with gasoline engine) or the CDI control module (N3/9) (on vehicles with diesel engine).
^ Transmission of power to inserted transmitter key
^ Rotation angle-dependent activation of individual clamps (c. 15, c. 15R, c. 50, c. 15X and c. 15C)
^ Transmitter key rotation lock by locking solenoid
^ Shift-lock function in combination with electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5) (on transmission 722)
^ Assignment of transmitter key to memory functions
