Location
The radar sensors are fitted from the rear in the bumper.
Task
The radar sensors (short range sensors) recognize objects (e.g. vehicles) within a short range up to s = 30 m and at an angle up to Angular = 140°.
Design
The radar sensors are ultra wideband radar sensors with the following properties:
- Radar sensor detection range s = 0.2 to 30 m, at a resolution of s = 0.04 m
- Reception area Angular = 80° with angle determination and Angular= 140° only detection (track)
- Radar sensor with f = 24.125 GHz carrier frequency
- Method of operation: short pulse method with f = 5 GHz band width
The design of the radar sensor as wideband radar sensors allows very precise position data, objects lying close together are detected differentiated.
Function
Vehicles with code (233) Distronic Plus Actuation and evaluation of the front radar sensors takes place takes up to 31.8.10 from radar sensors control unit (SGR) (N62/1) via sensor CAN (CAN S). As of 1.9.10 the front radar sensors from video and radar sensor system control unit (N62/2) are actuated and evaluated via the sensor CAN.
Vehicles with code (234) Blind Spot Assist
Actuation and evaluation of the rear radar sensors takes place by the radar sensors control unit via the sensor CAN.
For vehicles with code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist actuation and evaluation of the radar sensors at the front and rear takes place by the video and radar sensor system control unit via a sensor CAN.
