Function requirements, general
^ Circuit 30g ON
^ A mobile telephone network available in adequate strength and quality
^ Compatible mobile phone inserted into mobile phone cradle (A34/15) (accessory) that is connected to Bluetooth module (A34/7) (with code (386) Comfort telephony) or Bluetooth- compatible mobile phone authorized in vehicle (without code (386) Comfort telephony)
^ Correct Personal Identification Number (PIN) entry, if configured on mobile phone, entered (not with code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network in USA)
^ Entries from the phone book of the mobile phone have been imported into the phone book of the mobile phone system in the vehicle
The mobile phone used must support the hands-free profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. The list of mobile phones that meet these requirements can be viewed at www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com.
The entries stored in the mobile phone can be imported into the phone book of the mobile phone system.
Vehicles without code (386) Comfort telephony:
If the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth profile "Phone Book Access Profile", the entries can be stored in the telephone book using the function "Import contacts". If this is not the case, they must be transmitted with the function "Receive calling cards"
Access to the telephone book in the mobile phone is read only.
Vehicles with code (386) Comfort telephony:
The entries in the mobile phone are stored in the phone book using the "Import contacts" function.
On vehicles with navigation (with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio or code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer) address data can also be managed in the address book.
All names with telephone numbers in the address book entries stored can be displayed. If an address book entry does not have telephone number, it does not appear in the telephone book, The entry of the Mercedes-Benz Service Center "MB Contact" appears in first place in the phone book.
Placing/ending phone call, general
The following components are available for operating the mobile phone system:
- Control buttons on the mobile phone
- Control buttons on the audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
Telephone calls can be made in accordance with the vehicle equipment in handsfree mode (without code (386) Comfort telephony) or Private Mode (with code (386) Comfort telephony).
In handsfree mode, audio output takes place via the speaker system of the vehicle. The currently active audio source is muted (MUTE).
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the corresponding audio signals are output over the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio equipment sends the audio signals through the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), which then amplifies them and outputs them over the following speakers:
- Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
- Left front door sound system bass speaker (H4/64)
- Right front door sound system bass speaker (H4/65)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left front door sound system midrange speaker (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange speaker (H4/73)
In Private Mode the user makes a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the telephone conversation.
Private mode is activated when the mobile phone is removed from the cradle.
After the call has been established, the mobile phone receives or transmits the mobile phone signals via the following route:
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)

- Mobile phone and stationary heater radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53) (with code (228) Stationary heater)

- Cellular telephone system antenna amplifier/compensator (A28/3) (with code (228) Stationary heater and code (386) Comfort telephony)

The "Set up and terminate telephone call" function consists of the following subfunctions:

The system is described on the example of a system with code (386) Comfort telephony. Deviations for basic telephony (without code (386) Comfort telephony) are identified by the symbol.
Call setup function sequence
A telephone connection is set up by entering or selecting a phone number and then dialing.
The telephone number can be entered or selected as follows:
- Manual entry or voice input
- Selection from call list
- Selection from Short Message Service (SMS) with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- Selection from phone book
- Selection from address book
- Selection through navigation mode (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
A telephone number can be entered as follows:
- Control buttons on the mobile phone
- Control buttons on the audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
- Voice input via VCS [SBS]
When entries are made via the control buttons on the mobile phone, the control signals are processed internally by the mobile phone.
When entries are made via the control buttons on the audio equipment, the control signals are processed by the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
- Mobile phone
On vehicles without code (386) Comfort telephony, communication takes place between the audio equipment and the mobile phone via the following route:

To enter the telephone number via the Audio/COMAND control panel, the "TEL" base function must be started. The "TEL" base function is called up by pressing the "TEL" function key on the audio unit. The corresponding basic mask appears. In vehicles with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer or code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation) the basic TEL function can also be called up through the "TEL" menu in the application bar.
The telephone number can be entered or selected as follows:
- Manual entry via the Speller that is provided in the audio/ COMAND display (A40/8)
- Selection from lists and entries
The control signals of the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the telematics CAN (CAN A).
The audio equipment then forwards them to the mobile phone via the following route:

- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
- Mobile phone
On vehicles without code (386) Comfort telephony, communication takes place between the audio equipment and the mobile phone via the following route:

The phone book or the address book can be selected by pressing the system selection button (S110s3) via the "Tel" menu in the instrument cluster (A1). The name of the person to be called is selected by scrolling forward and back using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1). The telephone call is set up by pressing the accept/ terminate phone call button (S111s3).
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the following components:

The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the mobile phone by the audio equipment via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
- Mobile phone
The data that is required for displaying in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster is transmitted by the audio equipment via the interior CAN to the instrument cluster.
On vehicles without code (386) Comfort telephony, communication takes place between the audio equipment and the mobile phone via the following route:

The voice input via VCS [SBS] function is activated by pressing the voice control system ON button (S111s4). A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
Now the telephone number can be spoken or selected from the phone book, the address book or the call list.
The control signal of the voice control system ON button is forwarded to the audio equipment via the following route:

The call is set up in the dialogue with the aid of voice commands (examples):
- "Dial number"
- "Redial"
- "Read telephone book"
- "Listen to or delete address book"
- "Open or spell entries"
- "Landline or mobile"
- "Dial"
The voice commands are registered by the handsfree system microphone (A67b1) and forwarded to the audio equipment via a direct line. The voice commands are then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:

If a telephone number is stored when entering a point of interest (POI), the user can select it using the keypad on the COMAND controller unit or via the voice control of the VCS [SBS]. The control signals from the keypad at the COMAND controller unit are processed internally. The signals of the VCS [SBS] are transferred to the COMAND controller unit via the same route as for the function sequence "Establish telephone call via VCS [SBS]".
Call termination function sequence
The phone call can be terminated as follows:
- Terminate via control buttons on mobile phone
- Terminate via control buttons on audio equipment
- Terminate via audio/COMAND control panel
- Terminate via multifunction steering wheel button groups
Pressing the "Hang up" control button on the mobile phone terminates the telephone call. The control signal of the "Hang up" control button is processed internally by the mobile phone.
Pressing the "Hang up" control button on the audio equipment terminates the telephone call. The control signal of the "Hang up" control button is processed internally by the audio equipment.
The audio equipment then sends the control signal for the "Hang up" control button to the mobile phone via the following route:

Selecting the "Terminate call" pictogram and then confirming it on the Audio/COMAND control panel ends the telephone call.
