Audio system, general
The radio (A2) is the central operating unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle.
The radio is used to receive and play back radio stations as well as to play back CDs in audio and MP3 format. For vehicles with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer, the CD drive is also a changer, which can take up to six CDs. Apart from this, a hands-free system is integrated into the radio for mobile phones.
The mobile phone function is available as a separate function description and is therefore not described here.
Along with the listed functions, the radio also forms the communications interface (gateway) between the following data bus systems:
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
- Telematics CAN (CAN A)
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) (with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer)
Vehicles with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer
The radio communicates with the following control units over MOST:
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) (with code (537) Digital radio)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (with code (518) Media interface)
For vehicles with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio the MOST is not used, and therefore it is not possible to combine the radio with the following equipment:
- Code (518) Media interface
- Code (537) Digital radio
- Code (810) Sound system
The audio system is operated using the following controls:
- Control buttons on the radio
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
