Campaign - Update Injector Coding

Campaign No. 2012120004, January 2013

TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS

SUBJECT: Models 212, 218 with Engine M157, Model Year 2012

Update Injector Coding

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the injector coding may not meet current specifications in the subject vehicles. Dealers will update the Engine Control Module SCN coding to correct this condition at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 24 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

Note:
^ Use DAS/Xentry 11/12 with all associated patches or higher.

^ Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.

^ Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).

1. Remove air filter housing to view injector codes:

^ Pull up on engine covers (A, B. Figure 1) to unclip from engine mounting points then remove.

^ Disconnect air intake duct (C) from air cleaner (D).

^ Loosen hose clamps (arrows) then disconnect charge air ducts from air cleaner (D).

^ Pull up on air cleaner (D) to unclip from engine mounting points and place to one side.

^ Remove insulation located over fuel rail.

2. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle.

3. Update injector injection quantity adjustment: Control units / ME-SFI motor electronics 'MED 177' for internal combustion engine 'M157' / Control unit adaptations / Configuration / Manual adjustment / Injector quantity adjustment.

4. Follow on-screen instructions.

Note:
^ Injector code (arrow, Figure 2) can be read by disconnecting engine harness connector (A) from injector (B).

^ If injector code (arrow) found on each injector, is different from injector code indicated on Star Diagnosis screen, proceed with injector coding (follow-on screen instructions). If injector code (arrow) found on each injector is the same as injector code on Star Diagnosis screen, injector coding is not required.

5. Assemble in reverse order.
