GF82.85-P-2011FL TV-mode, Function
- with CODE (863) Digital/analog TV tuner
Function requirements
^ Status c. 15R ON
^ COMAND controller unit (A40/3) active
General
The TV tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) makes it possible to receive both analog and digital TV channels in the vehicle and to view them on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
Analog and digital TV signals are received over the same antenna structures. The function is therefore described together. However, it should be noted that the TV tuner (analog/digital) separates the video and audio signals from each other. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
^ Function sequence, TV signal reception
^ Function sequence, video signal
^ Function sequence, audio signal
^ Function sequence, additional information
The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the following components:
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
Function sequence, TV signal reception
The antenna signals for TV reception are received over the antenna structure in the rear window or windshield, and forwarded over the following antenna amplifiers and direct lines to the TV tuner (analog/digital):
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1)
- TV 2 antenna amplifier (A94/2)
- TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3)
Function sequence, video signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the TV tuner (analog/ digital), the video signals are displayed as follows:
- Direct Y/C line
- COMAND control unit
- Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) line
- Audio/COMAND display
Function sequence, audio signal
After the TV signals in the TV tuner (analog/digital) have been processed, the audio signals are sent over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit and on vehicles with code (810) Sound system over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and then amplified. The audio is output by the following speakers via direct lines:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (in model 212.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (in model 212.0)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speaker (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speaker (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)
On the bass speaker (H4/17) (model 212.0) or the bass speaker (H4/29) (model 212.2), the audio signal runs from the COMAND controller unit to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there via direct lines over the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) to the bass speaker.
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output over direct lines by the COMAND controller unit to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)
Function sequence, additional information
The supplemental information is subdivided into the following categories:
^ TV reception
^ Additional functions
TV reception
TV reception is subdivided into two subcategories:
- Analog TV reception
- Digital TV reception
Analog TV reception
The TV tuner (analog/digital) receives and processes analog terrestrial television programs broadcast in all standards. The audio quality is limited to "MONO". The TV system operates with a total of three reception modules for video and audio signals. The Phase Locked Loop (PLL) tuners used cover a reception range of f = 30 to 866 MHz. The TV tuner (analog/digital) supports reception of the "PAL/SECAM" and "NTSC" TV standards here. The TV tuner (analog/digital) is equipped with four antenna inputs (of which three are assigned), in which the TV signals are fed in by each of the antenna amplifiers. The antennas are not assigned to any particular tuner, but rather can be used by each tuner in identical manner.
Digital TV reception
In addition to analog television stations, it is also possible to receive terrestrial television stations broadcasting digital signals with the antenna structures already present. The Digital Vide Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) standard is supported. In contrast to analog TV, the audio can be received in stereo here. The switchover from analog to digital TV reception is accomplished by the TV tuner (analog/digital) automatically, depending on the current reception status. It is not possible for users to switch over themselves. However, switchover between alternative channels as well as between analog and digital reception can be prevented with the "Fix channel" control function.
If stations with matching stations names are received (e.g. ARD analog and digital), only one entry is made in the list of stations.
DVB-T can be used with a conventional antenna to receive more programs and in better quality.
Additional functions
The TV tuner (analog/digital) is equipped with the following functions:
- Video text
- Station list of channels currently receivable
- Last settings
- National settings
- Info (information on currently selected stations)
Videotext function
Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer videotext in addition to their television program. The TV tuner (analog/digital) is therefore equipped with its own videotext decoder. Only videotext broadcast with Latin ASCII characters are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.
