The system is described using the comfort telephony as an example. Differences from the basic telephony are marked by the symbol.
The mobile telephone system consists of the following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents:

Telephone book
The phone book contains the phone book entries stored in the audio equipment. The user can manage (view and delete) his contact data in the telephone book. Additionally, the data from the phone book of the mobile phone can be loaded into the phone book of the audio equipment (external data).
The data from the mobile phone's phone book are then permanently available, even if the mobile phone is no longer inserted in the cradle.
External phone book entries can only be removed by deleting all entries or deleting individual entries.
The system can be provided with the stored information via the phone book entries and the connection established immediately. The phone book is selected via the "Telephone (TEL)" base function, using the "TEL" function key on the audio equipment, or with the "TEL" menu item in the application bar on the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8), using the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9), and then via the "Name" menu item in the function bar.
In vehicles with basic telephony, read access to the phone book of the mobile phone is possible if the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth(R) Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP). Otherwise, data from the phone book of the mobile phone can only be loaded onto the audio equipment via "vCards".
Address book
The address book contains the address entries saved in the audio equipment. The user can manage all the contact data in the address book (view, edit, add, delete and create). Additionally, the data from the phone book of the mobile phone can be uploaded into the address book of the audio equipment. The data from the mobile phone's phone book are then permanently available, even if the mobile phone is no longer inserted in the cradle.
The address entries can be deleted according to type:
- Single entries
- Entries loaded down from mobile phone
- Entries imported via "vCards"
- Entries created manually in the audio equipment
- All entries
The Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) can be used to transmit data from other external devices (e.g. PDA, laptop, etc.) into the address book. These data are then permanently available as address entries. The address relevant applications for telephony can be started directly via the address book entries and provided with the data stored.
