TV mode, general
The TV digital tuner (A90/3) enables the vehicle to receive digital television stations and to show them on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
Digital TV signals are received over the antenna structure already present.
However it should be noted that the TV digital tuner separates the video and audio signals from each other. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
^ Function sequence, TV signal reception
^ Function sequence, video signal
^ Function sequence, audio signal
^ Supplemental information
The TV picture is switched off as of v = 5 km/h. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.
The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the following components:
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
Function sequence, TV signal reception
The antenna signals for TV reception are received over the antenna structure in the rear window or windshield, and forwarded over the following antenna amplifiers and direct lines to the TV digital tuner:
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1)
- TV 2 antenna amplifier (A94/2)
- TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3)
Function sequence, video signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the digital TV tuner, the video signals are output as follows:
- Direct Y/C line
- COMAND control unit
- Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) line
- Audio/COMAND display
Function sequence, audio signal
After the TV signals in the TV digital tuner have been processed, the audio signals are sent over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit and on vehicles with code (810) Sound system over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and then amplified. The audio is then output by the following speakers via direct lines:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (in model 212.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (in model 212.0)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speaker (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speaker (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)
On the bass speaker (H4/17) (model 212.0) or the bass speaker (H4/29) (model 212.2), the audio signal runs from the COMAND controller unit to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there via direct lines over the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) to the bass speaker.
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output over direct lines by the COMAND controller unit to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)
