The rear entertainment system is the entire entertainment system for rear passengers. Applications can be operated in the following menu items:
- "Disk"
- "TV" (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) and with code (498) Japan version)
- "AUX"
- "System"

The rear entertainment system comprises the following main components:
- DVD player (A40/4)
- Left rear display (A40/5)
- Right rear display (A40/6)
- Remote control
- Infrared (IR) headphones (cordless) (up to 31.5.2010), radio frequency headphones (cordless) (as of 1.6.2010) or headphones connected by cable

The following components are also used by the rear entertainment system but are not essential for using the rear entertainment system:
- COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- TV tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner)
- TV digital tuner (A90/3) (with code (498) Japan version)
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1) (with code (498) Japan version)
- TV 2 antenna amplifier (A94/2) (with code (498) Japan version)
- TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3) (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner or with code (498) Japan version)
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
- Vehicle speaker system
