Auto pilot system (APS), general
The radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) is the central operating unit for the entertainment and communications systems in the vehicle.
On vehicles with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, the DVD drive is designed as a changer, i.e. a selection can be made between up to 6 CDs or DVDs.
A separate function description exists for the mobile phone function and is therefore not described here.
The audio system consists of the following subfunctions which are described in separate documents:
^ Volume/tone settings, function
^ Audio mode, function
^ Digital Audio Broadcasting (Digital Radio) (DAB) function (with code (537) Digital radio)
^ Media interface function (with code (518) Media Interface)
^ DVD changer function (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer)
^ Navigation mode, function
^ Voice control, function (with code (511) AUDIO 50 APS incl. DVD changer)
The displays and menus that appear on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) are generated in the radio with auto pilot system.
The following functions are also displayed in the instrument cluster (A1) at the same time as being displayed in the Audio/COMAND display:
- "Audio"
- "Telephone"
- "Navigation"
The radio with auto pilot system communicates via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) with the following control units:
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (with code (518) Media interface)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) (with code (537) Digital radio)
- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
The radio with auto pilot system functions as a gateway.
It forwards the signals from the interior CAN (CAN B) to the components of the telematics CAN (CAN A) and the MOST.
The audio system can be operated using the following controls:
- Control buttons on the radio with auto pilot system
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are read in by the steering column tube module control unit (N80) by the steering wheel electronics (N135) via the steering LIN (LIN E1) and transmitted to the instrument cluster () via the chassis CAN (CAN E). The instrument cluster forwards the control signals via the interior CAN to the radio with auto pilot system.
