Function sequence for ETC
To transmit and receive the data, the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) antenna (A2/94) and the Electronic Toll Collection control unit (A50/3) are installed in the vehicle. The Electronic Toll Collection control unit communicates with the toll booth via the Electronic Toll Collection antenna. For automatic payment a special ETC card must be inserted into the Electronic Toll Collection control unit. All information concerning the user and the fees that have already been paid are stored on this card. On the vehicle side the Electronic Toll Collection control unit is connected via a recommended standard (RS)-232C interface with the COMAND controller unit. The ETC also has voice output and visual output.
Voice output occurs, when - a read error occurs in the ETC card
- the ETC card is not accepted
- an error occurs in the ETC card reader
- a communication error occurs in the ETC gate
- for itemized information on the last fee payment
- the ETC is not inserted
The Electronic Toll Collection control unit sends the request for voice output to the COMAND controller unit.
With code (810) Sound system the signals are forwarded over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), which then directly actuates the following speakers:
- Left door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Left door bass speaker (H4/1h2)
- Right door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Right door bass speaker (H4/2h2)
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
For vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the voice output is sent by the COMAND controller unit directly to the following speakers:
- Left door tweeter
- Left door bass speaker
- Right door tweeter
- Right door bass speaker
Visual displays (pop-up message) occur for:
- Booted COMAND controller unit and ETC card not inserted
- Booted COMAND controller unit and ETC card inserted
- Positive feedback from toll booth
- Negative feedback from toll booth (e.g. no authorization)
The Electronic Toll Collection control unit sends the request to the COMAND controller unit. The signals are sent by the COMAND controller unit over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
