Location
The Electronic Stability Program control unit (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) or Electronic Stability Program Premium control unit (N30/7) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) is located in the left front of the engine compartment on the traction system hydraulic unit.
Task
The Electronic Stability Program control unit (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) or the Electronic Stability Program Premium control unit (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) includes the controls for the following systems:
- Adaptive Brake (ABR)
- Speed-sensitive power steering (SPS) (with code (213) Speed-sensitive power steering)
- Tire pressure loss warning (RDW) (except code (475) Tire pressure monitor (premium))
- PRE-SAFE(R) system
- Variable speed limiter (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, except code (494) USA version and except code (460) Canada version)
- Cruise control (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
In vehicles with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, the variable speed limiter and the cruise control are integrated in the radar sensors control unit (N62/1).
The Electronic Stability Program control unit (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) or the Electronic Stability Program Premium control unit (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) performs the following tasks:

The following signals are read in via direct lines:

- Brake light switch (S9/1)
- Left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1)
- Right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2)
- Left rear axle rpm sensor (L6/3)
- Right rear axle rpm sensor (L6/4)
Chassis CAN
The Electronic Stability Program control unit (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) or the Electronic Stability Program Premium control unit (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) is a subscriber on the chassis CAN: The following signals are read in over the chassis CAN:
- The status of the AHV is provided by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) by the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) via the interior CAN (CAN B)
- Status of parking brake indicator switch (S12) provided by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module
- Status of ESP button (S6/1s5) provided by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module from the instrument panel switch group (S6/1) via the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1)
- Steering angle and steering angle rate of change provided by the steering column tube module control unit (N80) from the steering angle sensor (N49)
Vehicle dynamics CAN
Signals are read in via the chassis CAN from the following components:
- Yaw rate sensor for lateral and longitudinal acceleration (B24/15)
- Radar sensors control unit (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- DISTRONIC electric controller unit (A89) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the affected components are then actuated.
Transmitting signals
The following signals are transmitted via the chassis CAN:
- Drive torque increase or reduction at the CDI control unit CDI (N3/9) (on diesel engine) or the ME-SFI control unit (N3/10) (on gasoline engine)
- Shift process suppression at the CDI control unit (on diesel engine) or the ME-SFI control unit (on gasoline engine) to the electronic transmission control control unit (N15/3) (on transmission 722.6) or to the fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4) (on transmission 722.9) via drive train CAN (CAN C)
