GF82.85-P-2011CA TV-mode, Function
- with CODE (863) Digital/analog TV tuner
Function requirements for TV mode
^ Circuit 30g ON
^ COMAND controller unit (A40/3) active
The TV mode function is only available when the vehicle is stationary (v < 5 km/h). When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
TV mode, general
The TV tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) enables the vehicle to receive both analog and digital television stations and to show them via the Audio/COMAND display.
Analog and digital TV signals are received over the same antenna structures. The function is therefore described together. However, it should be noted that the TV tuner (analog/digital) separates the video and audio signals from each other.
The TV mode is comprised as follows:
^ Function sequence for TV signal reception
^ Function sequence for video signal
^ Function sequence for audio signal
^ Supplemental information
The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the control keys on the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9).
Function sequence for TV signal reception
The antenna signals for TV reception are received over the antenna structure in the rear window or windshield, and forwarded over the following antenna amplifier and direct lines to the TV tuner (analog/digital):
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1)
- TV 2 antenna amplifier and KEYLESS GO (A94/2)
- TV 3, FM2 and DAB band III antenna amplifier (A94/3) (model 207.3)
- TV 3, FM2 and DAB band III (A2/54) antenna amplifier (model 207.4)
Function sequence for video signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the TV tuner (analog/ digital), the video signals are displayed as follows:
- Direct Y-brightness (luminance)/C-color data (chrominance) (Y/C) line
- COMAND control unit
- Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
- Audio/COMAND display
Function sequence for audio signal
After the TV signals in the TV tuner (analog/digital) have been processed, the audio signals are sent over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit and on vehicles with code (810) Sound system over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and then amplified.
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output by the COMAND controller unit over the MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit and from there, to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Left door bass speaker (H4/1h2)
- Right door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Right door bass speaker (H4/2h2)
- Left rear tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Left rear bass speaker (H4/3h2)
- Right rear tweeter (H4/4h1)
- Right rear bass speaker (H4/4h2)
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Rear shelf bass speaker (H4/29)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output over direct lines by the COMAND controller unit to the following speakers:
- Left door tweeter
- Left door bass speaker
- Right door tweeter
- Right door bass speaker
- Left rear tweeter
- Left rear bass speaker
- Right rear tweeter
- Right rear bass speaker

Information on TV reception
The information on TV reception is divided into 2 subcategories:
- Analog TV reception
- Digital TV reception
Analog TV reception
The TV tuner (analog/digital) receives and processes analog terrestrial television programs broadcast in all standards. The audio quality is limited to "MONO". The TV system operates with a total of 3 reception modules for video and audio signals. The Phase Lock(ed) Loop (PLL) tuners used cover a reception range of f = 30 to 866 MHz. The TV tuner (analog/digital) supports reception of the "PAL/SECAM" and "NTSC" TV standards here. The TV tuner (analog/digital) is equipped with 4 antenna inputs (of which 3 are assigned), in which the TV signals are fed in by each of the antenna amplifiers. The antennas are not assigned to any particular tuner, but rather can be used by each tuner in identical manner.
Digital TV reception
In addition to analog television stations, it is also possible to receive terrestrial television stations broadcasting digital signals with the antenna structures already present. Only the Digital Vide Broadcasting-Terrestrial standard is supported. In contrast to analog TV, the audio can be received in stereo here. The switchover from analog to digital TV reception is accomplished by the TV tuner (analog/digital) automatically, depending on the current reception status. It is not possible for users to switch over themselves. However, switchover between alternative channels as well as between analog and digital reception can be prevented with the "Fix channel" control function.
If two stations are received with the same station names (e.g. "ARD" analog and digital), only one entry is made in the station list.
More programs can be received and in better quality with Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial than with a conventional antenna.
Information on additional functions
The TV tuner (analog/digital) is equipped with the following functions:
- Video text
- Station list of channels currently receivable
- Last settings
- National settings
- Info (information on currently selected stations)
Videotext function
Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer videotext in addition to their television program. The TV tuner (analog/digital) is therefore equipped with its own videotext decoder. Only video-text broadcasts with Latin "ASCII" character sets are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.
