The central locking (CL) can be operated with the left front door central locking interior actuation switch (S85/5) and right front door central locking interior actuation switch (S85/6).

The function locking/unlocking vehicle with interior switch comprises the following partial functions:
^ Function sequence for locking/unlocking CL

Function sequence for locking/unlocking CL
^ Vehicle must not be locked from outside with transmitter key (A8/1)

Function sequence for locking/unlocking CL
Actuation of the left front door central locking interior actuation switch is read in by the left front door control unit (N69/1), actuation of the right front door central locking interior actuation switch is read in by the right front door control unit (N69/2) and is relayed to the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) with interior CAN (CAN B).

The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the corresponding request via the interior CAN to the following control units:
- Rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)
- Left front door control unit
- Right front door control unit

Opening trunk lid via trunk lid external operation switch (S88/8) is enabled or disabled by the rear SAM control unit.

The front door control unit causes the following components to lock or unlock :
- Left front door lock (A85)
- Right front door lock (A85/1)

When locking with the central locking interior actuation switch, the tank cap remains always unlocked.

Enabled locking functions depending on door status: Driver door open:
- All doors except the driver door and the trunk lid are locked. Passenger door open:
- Locking with the left front door central locking interior actuation switch is inhibited

Opening a door from the inside when the CL is locked:
Basically each door can be opened from inside (except with code (885) Increased theft protection). At least the corresponding door is opened mechanically.
If the vehicle was unlocked globally before locking, the CL is actuated centrally.

Function sequence for unlocking trunk lid (opening)
The unlocking trunk lid (opening) function comprises the following partial functions:
^ Function sequence for opening with trunk lid release button (S15/1)
^ Function sequence for opening with trunk lid emergency opening switch (S88/10) (with code (494) USA version)

Function requirements for opening via trunk lid release button
^ Vehicle not locked with transmitter key
^ Speed v < 3 km/h

Function sequence for opening with trunk lid release button
Actuation of the trunk lid release button for t ≥ 0.5 s is read in directly by the left front door control unit and relayed to the rear SAM control unit with interior CAN.

This unlocks the rotary tumbler on the trunk lid with trunk lid central locking motor (M14/7).
The trunk lid is opened up to the upper stop by spring force.

Function sequence for opening with trunk lid emergency opening switch (with code (494) USA version)
This function is always activated (regardless of the CL status), because it allows the trunk lid to be opened by a person trapped in the trunk.
The trunk lid emergency opening switch is located on the inside of the trunk lid and is read in by the rear SAM control unit. When the trunk lid emergency opening switch is actuated, the rear SAM control unit actuates the trunk lid central locking motor to unlock the rotary tumbler. The trunk lid is opened up to the upper stop by spring force.
