GF54.30-P-0002CA Instrument Cluster (IC), Function
MODEL 207.3/ 4

Instrument cluster (A1), general
The instrument cluster notifies the driver of all dynamic and static driving conditions as well as about the current condition of the systems installed in the vehicle.
In the event of any faulty or safety-relevant vehicle functions, various warnings are displayed on the instrument cluster.
The following displays are incorporated into the instrument cluster in order to be able to convey information to the driver:
- Permanent displays (e.g. vehicle speed, rotational speed, tank contents)
- Indicator lamps (green, yellow or blue) (e.g. turn signals, high beams)
- Warning lamps (red) (e.g. coolant level, brake fluid level)
- Multifunction display (A1p13) (e.g. outside temperature indicator, display travel distance)
The function description for the "Instrument cluster (IC) function" includes the following functions:
^ Function sequence for activate instrument cluster
^ Function sequence for indicator lamp test
The following functions are also possible; they are described in separate documents:
^ Control/warning messages, function
^ Display operating conditions, function
^ Comfort displays, function
^ Trip computer, function
^ Settings on workshop level, function

Function sequence for activate instrument cluster
For the following events the background illumination of the multifunction display in the instrument cluster is activated:
- Unlock the vehicle by radio frequency or infrared
- Open or close driver door
- Change status of circuit 15C
The following events activate the background illumination of the multifunction display and the scale illumination of the instrument cluster:
- Standing lights ON
- Circuit 15R ON
After switching off circuit 15R, the instrument cluster remains active for t = 40 s. If a fault exists this time is increased to t = 120 s.

Additional function requirements for indicator lamp test
^ Circuit 15 ON

Function sequence for indicator lamp test
The indicator lamp test serves the function test of certain warning lamps and indicator lamps in the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster carries out this test automatically each time circuit 15 is switched on. The circuit 15 status is sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) over the chassis CAN (CAN E) to the instrument cluster.
The following warning and indicator lamps are activated during the indicator lamp test:
- Fuel reserve warning light (A1e4)
- Seat belt warning lamp (A1e9)
- Supplemental restraint system indicator lamp (A1e15)
- Antilock brake system indicator lamp (A1e17)
- ESP(R)/ASR OFF warning lamp (A1e32)
- Electronic Stability Program warning lamp (A1e41)
- Brake system warning lamp (A1e51)
- Coolant temperature warning lamp (A1e54)
- Engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58)
- DISTRONIC warning lamp(A1e59) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- Tire pressure monitor warning lamp (A1e66) (with code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Premium))
The indicator lamp test is terminated when the engine is started.
The following indicator lamps are not tested:
- Left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1)
- Right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2)
- High beam indicator lamp (A1e3)
- Preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) (on diesel engine)
- Rear fog light indicator lamp (A1e18)
- Fog lamps indicator lamp (A1e57)
- Low beam indicator lamp (A1e67)
Detailed information on the warning and indicator lamps are] available in the "Instrument cluster component description" document.
