N62/2 Video and radar sensor system control unit

Location
The video and radar sensor system control unit is located at the bottom right side of the luggage compartment.

Task
The video and radar sensor system control unit is the analysis for the close and long range radar as well as the active Lane Keeping Assist (for code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist). This means that the video and radar sensor system control unit is responsible for the following:
- Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Control of systems
- Output of signals

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line (for code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Vehicle dynamics CAN (CAN H)
- Sensor CAN (CAN S)

Low voltage differential signaling line (for code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist)
The video and radar sensor system control unit reads in the image data from the multifunction camera (A40/11) via a LVDS line.

Chassis CAN
The video and radar sensor system control unit reads in the following information via the chassis CAN:
- Status of the accelerator pedal
- Drive position status
- Status of the stage
- Service brake, status
- Yaw rate status
- Status information from the driver assist or driving safety system
- Wheel speeds and wheel rotation direction
- Brake torque
- Drive torque
- Tire pressure
- Parking brake status
- Status of steering angle
- Position data from navigation (for the Western Europe version)
- Driver request via CC [TPM] push button (S40/4)
- Driver request via menu settings in the instrument cluster (A1)
- Status of flasher (for code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist)
- Status of trailer (for code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist and code (550) AHV)
- Lane data (for code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist)

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Vehicle dynamics CAN
The video and radar sensor system control unit reads in the signals from the following component via the vehicle dynamics CAN:
- DTR controller unit (A89) (for code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist)
- Long range radar radar data
- Long range radar diagnosis data

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Sensor CAN
The video and radar sensor system control unit reads on signals from the following components via the sensor CAN:
- With code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or for code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist
- Radar sensor on the inside left, front bumper (A86/1b2)
- Radar sensor on the inside right, front bumper (A86/1b3)
- For code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist
- Radar sensor on the outside right, rear bumper (A86/2b1)
- Radar sensor on the outside left, rear bumper (A86/2b4)

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Control of systems
The video and radar sensor system control unit controls the following systems depending on the equipment present:
- Variable Speed Limiter function (Speedtronic) (without code (494) USA version)
- Permanent Speed Limiter (winter tires)
- DISTRONIC PLUS (for code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- Automatic deactivation of the radar sensor system (for the Western European version)
- Active Blind Spot Assist (with code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist)
- Active Lane Keeping Assist (for code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist)

Output of signals
The signals are issued over the following connections:
- Chassis CAN
- Vehicle dynamics CAN
- Sensor CAN

Chassis CAN
With code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, the video and radar sensor system control unit transmits the following signal via the chassis CAN:
- Request to raise engine torque
- Request to reduce engine torque
- Request to limit stages
- Request to raise stage
- Request to reduce stage
- Request to emit warning tones
- Request to emit system or warning messages
- Request for PRE-SAFE measures
- Braking requests

With code (237) Active blind spot assist, the video and radar sensor system control unit sends the following signals via the chassis CAN:
- Request to activate the left Blind Spot Assist readiness and warning indicator (M21/1e2) or right Blind Spot Assist readiness and warning indicator (M21/2e2)
- Request to emit warning tones
- Request to emit system or warning messages

With code (238) Active lane keeping assist, the video and radar sensor system control unit sends the following signals via the chassis CAN:
- Request to emit warning tones
- Request to emit system or warning messages

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Vehicle dynamics CAN
With code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, the video and radar sensor system control unit transmits the following signal via the vehicle dynamics CAN:
- Radar requirements of the long range radar (vehicle / operation-specific data
- Diagnosis request

For code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist or code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist the video and radar sensor system control unit transmits the following signals via the dynamics CAN:
- Request for wheel-selective interventions by the brake system

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Sensor CAN
The video and radar sensor system control unit transmits the following signals via the sensor CAN:
- Radar requirements of the short range radar (vehicle / operation-specific data)
- Diagnosis request

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
