GF00.30-P-0001LE System Diagnosis, Function
- MODEL 216.3, 221.0 /1 as of model year 09/YoM 08

System diagnosis, general
The fault codes stored in the fault memories of the individual control units can be read out using STAR DIAGNOSIS and evaluated. The system diagnosis is incorporated into the central gateway control unit (N93) as a software module.
STAR DIAGNOSIS is connected to the vehicle via the data link connector plug connection (X11/4) over the diagnostic CAN.
The central gateway control unit has access to the following bus systems:
- Interior CAN
- Diagnostic CAN
- Chassis CAN
- Central CAN
- Front end CAN
- Telematics CAN (over the COMAND control unit (A40/3))
- Drive train CAN (over ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (for gasoline engine) or CDI control unit (N3/9) (for diesel engine))
- Vehicle dynamics CAN (over the ESP control unit (N47-5)
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) (over the COMAND control unit)

The following information is displayed using STAR DIAGNOSIS for each diagnosis result:
- Control unit version
- Actual values
- Control unit adaptations
- Complete list of conducted tests
- Complete list of fault codes

The different variants such as special equipment, national and function variants, are filed ex-factory upon production completion in the central gateway control unit and activated in a vehicle-specific manner.

In the following cases, the central gateway control unit may need to be reprogrammed in the workshop:
- Defective central gateway control unit
- Addition of installation of a new control unit variant to one of the data buses or the MOST, which requires an update
