DTC Identification:

Diagnostic Trouble Codes

The EEC system communicates service information by way of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. These trouble codes are two-digit numbers representing the results of Diagnostic Test Mode.

The trouble codes are transmitted to the vehicle Data Link Connector (DLC) and Diagnostic Test Connector (DTC). They are in the form of timed pulses and are read by the technician on the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). Or, they are read as two-digit codes and code definitions on the NGS Scan Tool, which can be connected to the Data Link Connector inside the vehicle.

Long (0.6 second) flashes indicate the tens position and short (0.3 second) flashes indicate the ones position.
