Fuel Pump Control System

Fuel Pump Control Input/Output Chart:

PURPOSE

To allow the PCM ON/OFF control of the fuel pump.

OPERATION

The PCM grounds the Fuel Pump Relay to supply power to the Fuel Pump.

The PCM will ground the relay when:

- The ignition switch is turned on, relay grounded for one second.
- The engine is running, relay grounded continuously.
- When the engine stops running, relay ground is removed within 1.5 seconds.

The PCM will remove the relay ground when any condition OTHER than the above occurs.

Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch:

ADDITIONAL FEATURES - INTERTIA SWITCH

The Fuel Pump Control System has a redundant shut-off feature. An Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch automatically shuts off fuel if the vehicle is in a collision.

The collision does NOT have to be great to trigger the switch. A parking lot pump or big pot hole could set it. The switch is reset by pressing the red button on the top.

The Inertia Switch is located behind the trim panel below the hood release handle.
