Knock Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the intake plenum.
3. Remove the intake manifold.
4. Remove the radiator/heater pipes mounting bracket bolts.
5. Remove the five radiator/heater pipe-to-thermostat housing bolts. Remove the radiator/heater pipes.
6. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
7. Remove the knock sensor bolt and knock sensor from the cylinder block.

INSTALLATION
1. Position the knock sensor on the cylinder block and install the knock sensor bolt. Tighten the knock sensor bolt securely.
2. Connect the knock sensor electrical connector.
3. Clean the radiator/heater pipe-to-thermostat housing mounting surface. Apply a bead of silicone sealant around the radiator/heater pipe-to-thermostat housing mounting surface.
4. Position the radiator/heater pipes on the thermostat housing. Install the five radiator/heater pipe-to-thermostat housing bolts. Tighten the radiator/heater pipe-to-thermostat housing bolts to 16-21 Nm (12-15 ft lb).
5. Install the radiator/heater pipes mounting bracket bolts.
6. Install the intake manifold.
7. Install the intake plenum.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Start the engine and check for proper operation.
