Lap Belts - Retract Too Quickly/Nicks Door Panel

SAFETY BELTS - FRONT - LAP BELTS RETRACT TOO QUICKLY/NICKS IN DOOR PANELS - VEHICLES BUILT FROM 4/13/92 THROUGH 2/15/93

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
When the front lap belts are released, they may retract too quickly, causing the clip to nick the door panel.

ACTION:
Replace the lap belt retractors with redesigned retractors. The new lap belt retractors have been designed with a reduction in the spring force. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

REMOVAL

1. Remove the B-pillar lower trim. Refer to the Villager Service Manual, Section 01-05.





2. Remove the two front lap belt retractor bolts, Figure 1.

3. Remove the front lap belt retractor from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. Install the new front lap belt retractor and the front lap belt retractor bolts.

2. Tighten the front lap belt retractor bolts to 32-54 N-m (24-40 lb.ft.).

3. Install the B-Pillar lower trim. Refer to the Villager Service Manual, Section 01-05.
