ISSUE: The rear liftgate door lock actuator may be inoperative and/or is noisy during operation. This may be due to sheet metal bent in the liftgate resulting in a misalignment of the actuator.
ACTION: Straighten the sheet metal to realign the actuator. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Using the 1997 Villager Service Manual, Section 01-05, remove the rear liftgate door panel.
2. Inspect the 25mm (1") hole in the sheet metal in the actuator mounting surface (Figure 1).
3. If the hole is bent or deformed in front of the rear hatch actuator, remove the actuator and use a suitable tool to flatten the sheet metal and replace the actuator.
4. If the sheet metal is not damaged and the actuator is inoperative, follow the diagnostics on Page 01-14A-3 of the 1997 Villager Service Manual.
