WIPER - REAR - MOTOR - INOPERATIVE OR INTERMITTENT OPERATION VEHICLES BUILT FROM 4/13/92 THROUGH 11/7/94

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-95 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
The rear wiper motor may be inoperative or may operate intermittently. This may be caused by water leakage onto the wiper motor printed circuit board.

ACTION:
Remove the rear wiper motor and install a watershield onto the motor. The watershield will reduce the possibility of water entering the wiper motor. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear wiper motor following the 1995 Villager Service Manual, Section 01-16.

2. Remove the two (2) rear window wiper motor-to-bracket bolts and remove the bracket. Refer to Figure 1.

3. The motor contains a black plastic housing for electronic circuitry that is not sealed from water. If the circuitry is wet/damp, use compressed air to remove any water that may have collected in that area. Using a Rotunda Heat Gun (107-R0300 or equivalent) set on the "low" or "medium" position, dry out any remaining dampness that may be present.

4. Check for power to the rear window wiper motor connector. If no power is present, refer to Section 01-16 of the 1995 Villager Service Manual. If power is present, plug the motor into the connector. If the rear window wiper motor is functioning properly, then the circuitry has dried out and the motor should not be replaced.

NOTE:
IN MOST CASES, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR. ONLY REPLACE THE MOTOR IF IT HAS BEEN VERIFIED INOPERATIVE.

5. Install the watershield onto the motor. Refer to Figure 2.

6. Install the two (2) rear window wiper motor-to-bracket bolts and torque to 10-13 N-m (7-10 lb.ft). Install the three (3) rear window wiper motor bracket bolts and torque to 6-7 N-m (4-5 lb.ft). Refer to Figure 1.

7. Refer to the 1995 Villager Service Manual, Section 01-16, for motor installation procedures.
