Attachment III - Technical Information
OVERVIEWThis procedure provides the detail to replace the fuel tank filler pipe vent hose. The hose is located at the left side of the fuel tank and connects the filler pipe vent tube to the fuel tank. New clamps will be used to secure the hose.
WARNING
THE FUEL LEVEL IN THE TANK SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN HALF FULL OR FUEL SPILLAGE MAY OCCUR WHEN THE VENT HOSE IS DISCONNECTED.
WARNING
DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL RELATED COMPONENT. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND MAY BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Check the vehicle fuel level. If more than half full, siphon any fuel present in the filler neck.
2. If siphoning fuel from the filler neck was not required, remove the filler cap at this time, then raise and support the vehicle on a hoist.
WARNING
FUEL MAY STILL BE PRESENT IN THE VENT HOSE EVEN AFTER DRAINING THE FILLER NECK. WEARING PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) SUCH AS SAFETY GOGGLES MAY PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY IN THE EVENT OF FUEL SPILLAGE.
3. Loosen and slide the hose clamps away from the ends of the hose then remove the vent hose from the vehicle. See Figure 1.
CAUTION
Do not use any silicone-based products to lubricate the hose. A very small amount of water may be used to lubricate the hose if necessary to aid the installation.
4. Position the new clamps on the new hose, then install the hose. Set the clamps approximately 6 mm (1/4 in) from the ends of the hose.
5. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
6. Return any fuel removed back into the tank.
