^ NOISE - "WHINING" NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER REPLACING ENGINE TIMING BELT - SERVICE TIP
LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-94 VILLAGER
ISSUE:
Customers may experience a "whining" noise from the engine compartment following service replacement of the engine timing belt. This may be caused by the non-interchangeability of the belts between 1993 and 1994 model year vehicles. The belt design was changed from a square or trapezoid type to a half circle or round type for 1994, Figures 1 and 2. The design change extends the service life of the timing belt from 60,000 miles (96,558 km) to 105,000 miles (168,976 km). Figures 1 and 2.
ACTION:
Do NOT interchange individual components (timing belts, sprockets or tensioner spring assemblies) between 1993 and 1994 model vehicles. These parts are interchangeable as a set only.
