^ LEAK - COOLANT - FROM ENGINE BELOW THE CAMSHAFT - 3.0L VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 8/95

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-95 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
There may be a slight coolant leak coming from the engine near the threaded plug located directly below the camshaft. This may be due to a lack of sealant on the threaded plug.

ACTION:
Remove and reseal the threaded plug. The sealant on the plug should reduce coolant from leaking past the threads of the plug. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the timing belt covers, timing belt, upper camshaft timing gears and the rear belt cover dust shield using the appropriate Villager Service Manual, Section 03-01. Prior to removing the timing belt, rotate the engine and align the timing marks to ease in reassembly. It is not necessary to remove and disassemble the cylinder heads for this repair.

NOTE:
THE CAMSHAFT PULLEY HOLDING TOOL HAS BEEN CHANGED FOR THE 1994-95 VILLAGER. USE OWATONNA TOOL COMPANY (OTC) CAMSHAFT PULLEY MOLDING TOOL (T74P-6256-B).

2. Inspect the threaded blind plug located directly below the camshaft. Refer to Figure 1. If coolant, corrosion, or a powdery residue is noticeable around the outside edges of the threaded plug, use a suitable hex wrench and remove the plug.

3. Clean all traces of residue from the threaded plug and the cylinder head.

4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon (D8AZ-19554-A) to the threads of the plugs.

5. Reinstall the threaded plug and torque to 65-70 N.m (48-52 lb-ft).

6. Reassemble the engine components removed in previous Steps by following the procedure outlined in the appropriate Villager Service Manual.

7. Install engine coolant in the cooling system using the fill and bleed procedures outlined in the 1995 Villager Service Manual, Page 03-03-30.

NOTE:
THE FILL PROCEDURE MUST BE FOLLOWED TO ASSURE NO AIR REMAINS IN THE COOLING SYSTEM.
