^ SLIDING DOOR - "RATTLING" OR "CHUCKING" NOISE FROM UPPER HINGE AREA ON VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 5/1/94

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-94 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
A "rattling" and/or "chucking" noise may be heard from the sliding door area under normal driving conditions. This noise may be caused by the rollers in the upper hinge intermittently contacting the upper guide rail and/or insufficient clearance between the dovetail halves at the "B" pillar while the door is closed.

ACTION:
Install a new service spring in the upper hinge and adjust the dovetail. Refer to the following service procedure for specific details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

VERIFY THE CONCERN

1. Test drive the vehicle with an assistant riding in the second row seat.

2. While driving under normal conditions, listen for noise coming from the sliding door at the upper "B" pillar area.

3. If a "rattling" or "chucking" noise is heard, use the following repair procedures.

SLIDING DOOR "RATTLE"





1. Open the sliding door to gain access to the upper hinge. Refer to Figure 1.





2. Install the spring (F4XY-12235A52-A) between the two (2) brackets of the upper hinge, inboard side. Refer to Figure 2.





3. Fully seat the spring around the pivot pin. Refer to Figure 3.

SLIDING DOOR "CHUCKING"

1. Open the sliding door fully.





2. Loosen the dovetail mounting screws using a # 3 phillips screwdriver. Refer to Figure 4.

3. Tap the dovetail lightly using a rubber hammer toward the inside of the vehicle to break the dovetail loose and allow for alignment.

4. Rotate the dovetail clockwise until the dovetail contacts both mounting screws. Refer to Figure 4.

5. Tighten both mounting screws to 5.1-6.5 N-m (4-5 lb.ft.).

6. Close the sliding door and check the fit of the door. The dovetail may be readjusted slightly to allow for proper door fit.
