SPEED CONTROL - 3-5 MPH (5-8 KM/H) SPEED LOSS ON HILLS OR GRADES - VEHICLES BUILT FROM 4/13/92 THROUGH 11/2/92

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
A loss of speed of 3-5 MPH (5-8 km/h) on hills or grades may occur when the speed control is engaged. This may be more noticeable on models equipped with the digital cluster option.

ACTION:
Replace the speed control module with an improved module which incorporates design changes to improve performance. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

REMOVAL

CAUTION:
ELECTRONIC MODULES ARE SENSITIVE TO STATIC ELECTRICAL CHARGES. IF EXPOSED TO THESE, DAMAGE TO THE MODULE MAY RESULT. REFER TO MODULE SERVICING PRECAUTIONS IN SECTION 18-01 OF THE 1993 VILLAGER SERVICE MANUAL.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Remove the four (4) plastic storage bin screws and remove the storage bin, Figure 1.

NOTE:
THE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES ARE IDENTICAL FOR THE RH AND LH INNER KICK PANELS.





3. Remove the two (2) inner kick panel screws and the plastic nut from both the RH and LH inner kick panels, Figure 2.

4. Remove the foot lamp housings, if equipped.

5. Remove the RH and LH kick panels.





6. Disconnect the speed control module electrical connector, Figure 3.





7. Remove the three (3) attachment nuts from the speed control module, Figure 4.

8. Remove the speed control module from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. Install a new speed control module (F3XY-9F812-B) by reversing the removal procedure.

2. Tighten the inner kick panel screws to 2.6-3.6 N-m (23-32 lb.in.).
