AFFECTED VEHICLES
1993 Model Year Mercury Villagers produced from Job # 1, through August 19, 1993.

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM

Structural components referred to as door guard beams are installed in the side doors of the Villager. Following repeated door closings, the beams of the driver and front passenger doors may detach from the rest of the door structure. This may result in rattling noises from inside one or both of the doors.

The side door guard beams were installed on the Villager in anticipation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 214, "Side Impact Protection", in advance of its effective date for Villager-type vehicles. The purpose of the standard is to specify crashworthiness requirements for protection of vehicle occupants in certain lower-speed side impact crashes. So that each of these side door guard beams may remain fully effective and securely attached to the Villager as intended by the manufacturer, Ford Motor Company wishes to install supplementary fasteners to the beans of the front doors.

SERVICE ACTION
The door beam welds on affected vehicles will be reinforced or reattached as appropriate.

DRILL BIT ALLOWANCE
A drill bit allowance of $1.00 per vehicle will be given to compensate for unusual drill bit wear.

REFUNDS

Only for owner-paid repairs made before the date of the Owner Letter or after the date of the Owner Letter if an emergency repair was made away from the selling dealer.
