Fuel Pump Relay: Description and Operation
Fuel Pump Relay:
PURPOSE
The Fuel Pump Relay (FPR) supplies voltage to the fuel pump when activated by the PCM.
LOCATION
In the LH engine compartment relay block.
OPERATION
The PCM activates the FPR for 5 seconds after turning the ignition key "ON". When the PCM receives a 120 degree signal from the crankshaft position sensor, it knows that the engine is rotating, and causes the fuel pump relay to activate. When activated, the relay supplies the fuel pump with voltage, which allows it to operate continuously as long as the engine is running. If the PCM does not receive a 120 degree signal when the ignition switch is "ON", the engine stalls.
