Safing Sensor: Service and Repair






REMOVAL

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT 10 MINUTES.

NOTE: The crash/safing sensor is located behind the storage bin.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait 10 minutes for the backup power supply energy to be depleted.





2. Remove the four storage bin screws and the storage bin.





3. Remove the two heater outlet floor duct screws and the heater outlet floor duct.





4. Disconnect the crash/safing sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the three crash/safing sensor bolts.





6. Remove the crash/safing sensor.





INSTALLATION
To install, position the crash/safing sensor with the arrow on the top pointing towards the front of the vehicle, and reverse the removal procedure. Tighten the crash/safing sensor bolts to 15-25 Nm (11-18 lb-ft). Verify that the air bag warning indicator is operative.
