Impact Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT 10 MINUTES.

NOTE: The front air bag sensor and bracket is located on the radiator support.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait 10 minutes for the backup power supply energy to be depleted.
2. Remove the radiator.
3. Remove the front grille illumination bar.





4. Remove the three front air bag sensor and bracket bolts.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the 14 RH front fender splash shield screws and five clips, and remove the RH front fender splash shield.





7. Disconnect the front air bag sensor electrical connector.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Feed the front air bag sensor wiring through the front fender.





10. Remove the front air bag sensor and bracket.

CAUTION: If equipped, take care not to damage the A/C condenser core fins while removing the front air bag sensor and bracket.

INSTALLATION
To install, position the front air bag sensor and bracket with the arrow on top pointing toward the front of the vehicle, and reverse the removal procedure. Tighten the front air bag sensor and bracket bolts to 15-25 Nm (11-18 lb-ft). Verify that the air bag warning indicator is operative.
