FUNCTION TESTS






1. In the Mode Select Screen, highlight FUNCTION TESTS and press TRIGGER. Screen Display K will appear.


NOTE: FUNCTION TESTS is available only on PCM.

CAUTION: When performing Function Test always connect the NGS Tester to the battery. Never use the cigar lighter as this will cause the NGS Tester to restart at the Main Menu when performing the Start Sign Test.


2. FUNCTION TESTS allows two modes of operation, ALL TESTS and SINGLE TEST ALL TESTS will sequentially run through each functional test and then give a pass/fail report. SINGLE TEST allows the technician to select a single test to run.
To perform the desired test, highlight ALL TESTS or SINGLE TEST as applicable, and press TRIGGER.

3. The following procedure is used for running FUNCTION TESTS in the ALL TESTS mode:

- Select ALL TESTS from Screen Display K.

- Follow on-screen instructions.

- View results after all of the tests finish.







4. The following procedure is used for running Function Tests in the SINGLE TEST mode:

- Select SINGLE TEST from Screen Display K.

- Turn NGS Tester menu dial to select desired test.

- Follow instructions on screen (if any).

- View the result (write it down if needed).

- Press TRIGGER to return to the list of tests.

Possible System Messages
If the screen displays any of these messages during testing, read the accompanying explanation and the solution.

LINK COMMUNICATION ERROR

MODULE NOT RESPONDING

- Verify that key is ON and data link cable is connected securely.


Turn ENGINE OFF and KEY ON

Occurs when a Key ON Engine Off (KOEO) test has been selected with engine running.


- Follow directions on the screen.


START ENGINE

Occurs when a Key ON Engine Running (KOER) test has been selected with the engine off.

- Follow directions on the screen.


Warm engine to 176°F (8°C) or above


Occurs when the engine is cold and any of these tests have been selected: Air/Fuel Ratio, Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve, or Power Balance.
