Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
Fuel Pump Fuse Location:
REMOVAL
1. Remove the fuse for the fuel pump (located in the fuse panel in the left knee bolster)
2. Turn the ignition key to the start position for approximately 15 seconds (this will release the fuel pressure).
3. Using a portable pump, remove as much fuel from the tank as possible and store it in an approved container.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then raise and support the vehicle.
NOTE: You will need a jack with a large flat surface to remove the fuel tank.

5. Remove the two retaining pins from the fuel tank front protector shield.

6. Remove the three fuel tank front protector bolts and protector shield.
7. Position the jack under the fuel tank.

8. Remove the two fuel tank strap bolts and let the tank settle onto the jack.
9. Remove the spring clips from the strap hinges and then remove the straps.

10. Loosen and remove the supply and return lines from the tank. Plug the lines so that fuel doesn't drain out.

11. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.

12. Loosen and remove the vapor separator hose and the filler neck hose.
13. The fuel tank is now ready to be removed.
INSTALLATION
Installation is the reverse of removal noting the following:
^ Torque the tank strap bolts to 21-26 ft lb(29-35 Nm).
^ Torque the three tank protector bolts to 39-47 in lb(4.4-5.4 Nm).
