Front Seat Installation
INSTALLATIONUse a safety seat that is recommended for the size and weight of the child. Always follow the safety seat manufacturer's instructions when installing and using the safety seat. Ford recommends using forward-facing safety seats with top tether straps for added protection. Refer to the child safety seat tether attachment removal and installation procedure.
WARNING: ALL SAFETY SEATS FOR CHILDREN ARE DESIGNED TO BE SECURED TO THE SEAT OF YOUR VEHICLE BY LAP BELTS OR BY THE LAP PORTION OF A LAP AND SHOULDER BELT. IF YOU DO NOT PROPERLY SECURE THE SAFETY SEAT TO THE VEHICLE, THE RISK IS GREATER THAT A CHILD, OCCUPYING THE SEAT DURING A COLLISION OR SUDDEN STOP, WILL BE INJURED. AN UNSECURED SAFETY SEAT COULD ALSO INJURE OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE.
Forward-facing child safety seats should not be used in the third-row bench seat unless that seat is adjusted to its rearmost seating position.
The vehicle is equipped with a dual locking mode retractor on the lap belt for the front passenger seat. The automatic locking mode is activated whenever all of the belt webbing is pulled out of the retractor. The automatic locking mode must be used when installing a child seat or infant carrier in the front passenger seat.
The motorized shoulder belt cannot be used to secure a child safety seat. Use the passenger-side lap belt.
Disconnect the shoulder belt from the emergency release buckle by pressing the red button. Allow the belt to fully retract. The safety belt warning indicator lamp will remain on while the shoulder belt is disconnected. Be sure to reconnect the shoulder belt after the child seat or infant carrier is removed.
If a child safety seat or infant carrier is installed in the front seat, follow these steps:
1. Position the child seat or infant carrier in the front passenger seat. Slide the front passenger seat to the rearmost position.
2. Follow the child seat or infant carrier manufacturer's instructions. Route the front safety belt through the child seat or infant carrier and insert the safety belt tongue into the front safety belt buckle end until it snaps and locks into place.
3. Grasp the front safety belt below the child seat label. Pull the front safety belt out of the retractor until the belt webbing is completely extended and a click is heard. At this time, the retractor is in the automatic locking mode (child seat restraint mode).
4. Allow the front safety belt to retract. A clicking sound will be heard as the front safety belt retracts. This indicates that the retractor is in the automatic locking mode. Pull down on the front safety belt to remove any slack.
5. Before placing the child in the child seat or infant carrier, use force to tilt the seat from side to side, and tug it forward to make sure that the seat is securely held in place.
6. Check that the retractor is in the automatic locking mode. Try to pull more of the front safety belt out of the retractor. If it cannot, the front safety belt is in the automatic locking mode.
7. Check to make sure that the child seat or infant carrier is properly secured prior to each use. If the front safety belt is not locked, repeat steps 3 through 6.
To release the retractor from the automatic locking mode, allow the webbing to retract fully.
