Automatic Adjustment
The rear brake shoes and linings do not require manual adjustment when being serviced to achieve a firm brake pedal feel.To achieve a firm brake pedal feel after servicing the rear brake shoes and linings, sharply apply the service brake pedal several times while driving the vehicle alternately forward and backward. Check brake operation by making several stops while driving forward. The self-adjusting mechanism will sufficiently adjust the rear brake shoes and linings without any manual tightening at the brake shoe adjusting lever.
If the rear brake shoes and linings are manually adjusted, the additional action of the brake shoe adjusting levers can cause the brakes to become over-tightened and result in binding or overheated rear brakes.
