Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump Control Input/Output Chart:

PURPOSE
To allow the PCM ON/OFF control of the fuel pump.

OPERATION
The PCM grounds the Fuel Pump Relay to supply power to the Fuel Pump.

The PCM will ground the relay when:
- The ignition switch is turned on, relay grounded for one second.
- The engine is running, relay grounded continuously.

The PCM will remove the relay ground when any condition OTHER than the above occurs.
- When the engine stops running, relay ground is removed within 1.5 seconds.

Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch:

ADDITIONAL FEATURES - INERTIA SWITCH
The Fuel Pump Control System has a redundant shut-off feature. An Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch automatically shuts off fuel if the vehicle is in a collision.
The collision does NOT have to be great to trigger the switch. A parking lot speed bump or large pothole could trigger it. The switch is reset by pressing the red button on the top.

LOCATION
The Inertia Switch is located behind the LH trim panel, below the hood release handle.
