Removal
REMOVALWARNING:
- Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
- Fuel supply lines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shutdown. This pressure must be relieved before servicing of the fuel system is begun.
1. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
Fuel Tank Removal And Installation:
5. Remove the two pins from the fuel tank front protector.
6. Remove the three fuel tank front protector bolts and remove the fuel tank front protector.
7. Disconnect the evaporative emission hose from the evaporative emission valve.
8. Loosen the fuel return hose clamp and slide it away from the fuel return hose connection.
NOTE:
- Label the fuel return tube and fuel supply tube to ease installation.
- Use a rag to prevent fuel from spilling while disconnecting the fuel tubes.
9. Disconnect the fuel return hose at the fuel tank.
10. Loosen the fuel supply hose clamp and slide it away from the fuel supply hose connection.
11. Disconnect the fuel supply hose at the fuel tank.
Fuel Tank Removal And Installation:
12. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
13. Loosen the hose clamp from the fuel tank to filler pipe hose and slide the hose clamp toward the fuel tank.
14. Separate the fuel tank to filler pipe hose from the fuel tank filler pipe.
15. Place a jack under the fuel tank to support it when the fuel tank support straps are removed.
16. Remove the two fuel tank support strap bolts and allow the fuel tank support straps to hang down.
17. Remove the spring clips from the fuel tank support strap hinges.
18. Remove the fuel tank support strap hinges and remove the fuel tank support straps.
19. Lower the fuel tank from the vehicle.
- NOTE: The aid of an assistant may be necessary to remove the fuel tank.
