Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait 10 minutes for the backup power supply energy to be depleted.
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT 10 MINUTES.
2. Remove the four console compartment plastic screws or the CD changer cover plastic screws (if equipped) and the console compartment door or the CD changer cover (if equipped).
3. Remove the two LH inner instrument panel lower cover screws and the plastic nut, then remove the LH inner instrument panel lower cover and disconnect the foot lamp electrical connector.
4. Remove the two RH inner instrument panel lower cover screws and the plastic nut. Then remove the RH inner instrument panel lower cover and disconnect the foot lamp electrical connector.
5. Remove the four air bag diagnostic monitor bolts and the air bag diagnostic monitor.
6. Disconnect the air bag diagnostic monitor electrical connector.
7. Remove the air bag diagnostic monitor from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install new air bag diagnostic monitor bolts and tighten to 15-25 Nm (11-18 lb-ft). Verify that the air bag warning indicator is operative.
CAUTION: The air bag diagnostic monitor must be installed with the arrow marks pointing towards the front of the vehicle for proper operation.
