Rear Seat Installation
INSTALLATIONThe vehicle is equipped with a dual locking mode retractor on the combination lap/shoulder belts in the center and rear seats. The automatic locking mode is activated whenever all of the belt webbing is pulled out of the retractor. The automatic locking mode must be used when installing a child seat or infant carrier in the rear seat.
To install a child safety seat or infant carrier in the center and rear seats, follow these steps:
1. Position the child seat or infant carrier in the vehicle seat. If the moveable third row seat is being used, slide the seat to the rearmost position.
2. Follow the child seat or infant carrier manufacturer's instructions. Route the belt through the child seat or infant carrier and insert the belt tongue into the buckle until the latch engages.
3. Pull on the belt until all of the stored belt is out of the retractor and a click is heard.
4. Allow the belt to retract. A clicking sound will be heard as the belt retracts. This indicates that the retractor is in the automatic locking mode. Pull down on the safety belt to remove any slack.
5. Before placing the child in the child seat or infant carrier, use force to tug on seat to make sure it is secure.
6. Check that the retractor is in the automatic locking mode. Try to pull more of the safety belt out of the retractor. If it will not, the safety belt is in the automatic locking mode.
7. Check to make sure that the child seat or infant carrier is properly secured prior to each use. If the safety belt is not locked, repeat steps 3 through 6.
8. To release the safety belt from the automatic locking mode, unbuckle the rear safety belt and buckle, and the auxiliary buckle if applicable. Allow the combination lap/shoulder belt to fully retract to release the automatic locking mode. When the combination lap/shoulder belt is unbuckled and allowed to retract completely, the retractor will switch to the vehicle sensitive (emergency) locking mode.
