Transmission Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

TRANSAXLE OIL TEMPERATURE (TOT) SENSOR

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect valve body wiring harness.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove transaxle drain plug and drain transaxle fluid into suitable container. Discard transaxle drain plug gasket.
5. Remove transaxle oil pan bolts, then the oil pan. Discard oil pan bolts and oil pan gasket.
6. Mark position of oil pan magnets, then remove and clean both magnets.
7. Remove four solenoid assembly bolts.
8. Remove three TOT sensor bolts.
9. Remove valve body wiring harness bolts.
10. Remove line pressure solenoid bolts.
11. Remove valve body wiring harness, solenoid assembly, line pressure solenoid and TOT sensor from valve body. Discard all O-rings.
12. Slide valve body wiring harness through transaxle case.
13. Remove valve body wiring harness with solenoid assembly, line pressure solenoid and TOT sensor from transaxle.

INSTALLATION
1. Slide valve body wiring harness through transaxle case.
2. Secure valve body wiring harness with spring clip.
3. Install new O-rings on solenoid assembly.
4. Install solenoid assembly onto the main control valve body. Tighten four solenoid assembly bolts to 6-7 ft lb.
5. Install line pressure solenoid with new O-ring onto main control valve body. Tighten line pressure solenoid bolts.
6. Install valve body wiring harness. tighten wiring harness bolts to 5-6 ft lb.
7. Install oil pan magnets in positions marked before removal.
8. Install oil pan with new gasket. Install new oil pan bolts in criss-cross pattern. Tighten bolts to 5-6 ft lb.
9. Install transaxle drain plug and new drain plug gasket. Tighten drain plug to 22-29 ft lb.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Connect valve body wiring harness.
12. Connect battery ground cable.
13. Fill transaxle.
