Charging System Voltage Output Test

1. Turn ignition switch to the On position, engine OFF.
2. Check voltage readings at the alternator wiring connectors as follows:
a. Terminal ``B'' should read battery voltage.
b. Terminal ``L'' Should read 1.5-2.0 volts.
c. Terminal ``S'' should read battery voltage.
3. Start engine, then allow engine to operate at normal curb idle speed, then recheck voltage readings for the following specified outputs:
a. Terminal ``B'' should read between 14.1-14.7 volts.
b. Terminal ``L'' Should read 13.0-14.0 volts.
c. Terminal ``S'' should read between 14.1-14.7 volts.
4. If voltage read as specified, check wiring harness between battery and ``B'' terminal of alternator.
5. If voltage readings are not as specified, check wiring harness. If wiring harness is in good condition, repair or replace alternator assembly.
