Body Side Window - Unable To Keep in Closed Position

GLASS - BODY SIDE WINDOWS - UNABLE TO KEEP IN CLOSED POSITION

LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-96 VILLAGER

ISSUE:
The body side window(s) may not stay in the closed position on some vehicles. This may be caused by the position of the body side window latch base, in relation to the vehicle body, not allowing the intended latch geometry.

ACTION:
Adjust the body side window(s) latch. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

FIRST BODY SIDE WINDOW - DRIVER SIDE, SECOND BODY SIDE (MANUAL) WINDOWS - LEFT AND RIGHT

1. Remove the interior trim panel to expose the two (2) Phillips screws at the latch base. Refer to the appropriate year Villager Service Manual, Section 01-05.

2. Open the particular body side window that requires the adjustment.





3. Loosen the two (2) Phillips screws that attach the latch base to the body side pillar (Figure 1).

4. Slide the latch fully rearward (toward the back of the vehicle) and hold the latch in this position. Tighten the two (2) Phillips screws to 3.8-4.5 N.m (34-40 lb-in).

5. Install the interior trim panel. Check latch operation and window retention in the closed position.

6. If the latch fails to keep the window closed after Steps 1-5 have been completed, perform Steps 7 and 8.

7. Open the window.





8. Loosen the Phillips screw that attaches the glass position retainer "beauty bolt" to the latch (Figure 2). Slide the glass position retainer to the full forward position (front of vehicle) and hold. Tighten the Phillips screw to 3.8-4.5 N.m (34-40 lb-in).

SLIDING DOOR WINDOW

1. Open the window.





2. Loosen the two (2) Phillips screws that attach the latch base to the vehicle body (Figure 3).

3. Slide the latch fully rearward (toward the back of the vehicle) and hold the latch in this position. Tighten the two (2) Phillips latch screws to 3.8-4.5 N.m (34-40 lb-in).

4. Check latch operation and window retention in the closed position. If the latch fails to keep the window closed after Steps 1-3 have been completed, perform Steps 5 and 6.

5. Open the window.

6. Loosen the Phillips screw that attaches the glass position "beauty bolt" to the latch (Figure 2). Slide the glass position retainer to the full forward position (front of vehicle) and hold. Tighten the Phillips screw to 3.8-4.5 N.m (34-40 lb-in).
