REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM - INTERMITTENT OPERATION
LIGHT TRUCK:
1996 VILLAGER
ISSUE:
The remote keyless entry system may work intermittently. This may be due to the antenna being too short and not having good reception.
ACTION:
Replace the keyless entry system antenna. The revised antenna is longer to improve reception and reduce the possibility of intermittent operation. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the RH side A-pillar moulding.
2. Disconnect the remote keyless entry antenna in-line connector.
3. Install the new remote keyless entry antenna (F6XZ-15603-AA). Install foam tape over the windshield antenna pigtail to prevent rattles.
4. Run the new antenna wire along the outside of the A-pillar in such a way that it is hidden when the A-pillar trim is reinstalled. At the top of the A-pillar, route the antenna underneath the headliner toward the middle of the vehicle.
NOTE:
APPROXIMATELY 30.5 cm (12") OF ANTENNA WILL BE UNDERNEATH THE HEADLINER. HOLD THE WIRE IN PLACE BY TAPING IT TO THE HEADLINER AT THE END OF THE WIRE.
5. Reinstall the A-pillar trim.
6. Verify operation of the keyless remote entry system.
