TRANSAXLE - DIFFICULTY MOVING SHIFT LEVER FROM "PARK" POSITION - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 2/1/97
LIGHT TRUCK:
1996-97 VILLAGER
ISSUE:
The shift lever may be difficult to move out of the "Park" position, especially in cold weather. This may be due to improper adjustment of the ignition switch cylinder plunger interlock rod.
ACTION:
Adjust the ignition switch cylinder plunger interlock rod. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
The ignition switch plunger is located on the side of the ignition switch (Figure 1). Adjust the interlock rod as follows:
1. Remove the lower plastic steering column cover (four (4) screws).
2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
3. Locate the black plastic locking nut mounted on the interlocking rod between the ignition switch and the white plastic interlock lever. Unlatch the nut by pressing on the two prongs and pulling toward the ignition switch.
4. Readjust the interlock rod length by pushing the ignition switch plunger toward the front of the vehicle (Figure 2).
5. Lock the black plastic nut on the threaded portion of the interlocking rod and cycle the ignition key to confirm proper operation.
