1993-1998 VILLAGER

ISSUE
On some vehicles a distinct rattle may be evident in the body side door area while driving. The noise may be due to movement of the body side door rear latch from the primary latch position to the secondary latch position. This condition may be caused by a misadjusted body side door rear latch actuating rod.

ACTION
Adjust the body side door rear latch actuating rod.

Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the body side door latch bezel and trim panel. Refer to Villager Workshop Manual Section 01-05.

2. Peel back the plastic weather shield from the body side door.

3. Open the yellow lock clip and remove the rear body side door latch actuating rod from the yellow lock clip located in the center of the body side door (Figure 1).

4. Rotate the rear body side door latch actuating rod clockwise. Doing this will lengthen the outside door handle unlatch stroke (Figure 2).

NOTE
THE LENGTH OF THE ACTUATING ROD NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED SO THE BODY SIDE DOOR REAR LATCH RELEASES WHEN THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE IS BETWEEN 3/4 AND FULL TRAVEL.

5. Position the rear body side latch actuating rod into the yellow lock clip.

6. Verify that the body side door rear latch releases after reaching 3/4 travel of the outside door handle. If adjustment is still needed, repeat the adjustment procedure as necessary until the proper body side door rear latch operation is achieved.

7. When adjustment is completed, verify that the INSIDE door handle releases the body side rear latch correctly.

8. Attach the plastic weather shield to the body side door.

9. Reinstall the body side door trim panel and bezel. Refer to Villager Workshop Manual Section 01-05.
