This TSB is being republished in its entirety to correct the part number for the Balance Tube Gasket.

ISSUE:
There may be a "knocking" noise in the lower engine area after a cold soak on start-up on some vehicles. This may be caused by reduced oil flow to the piston during start-up causing piston slap.

ACTION:
Replace the long block assembly. The connecting rods in the new long block have oil holes to improve cold engine start-up noise. Refer to the appropriate Villager Service Manual for replacement procedures.

The noise is most audible at a cold start-up between 1200-1800 rpms. It may resemble a lower engine knock. Perform a cylinder balance test on cylinders 2, 3, and 4. It the noise diminishes, the cause is piston slap. Proceed with this TSB. Replace the long block assembly.

Drain all fluids from the engine core. It will be picked up by your local Ford Authorized Remanufacturer.
