Horn - Inadvertent Activation or Chirping

^ NOISE - "CHIRPING" FROM HORN DUE TO INADVERTENT ACTIVATION - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 2/1/96

LIGHT TRUCK:
1996 VILLAGER

This TSB is being republished in its entirety to correct the vehicle build dates.

ISSUE:
The horn may "chirp" without being activated by the driver. This may be caused by a resistor in the timer module, which is part of the illuminated entry system.

ACTION:
Replace the timer module with a revised timer module (F6XZ-15K602-DB with keypad, F6XZ-15K602-EB without keypad). Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
STATIC ELECTRICITY CAN DAMAGE ELECTRONIC MODULES. REFER TO THE 1996 VILLAGER SERVICE MANUAL, PAGE 18-01-24, FOR HANDLING PROCEDURE.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Remove the four (4) console compartment screws (plastic), and the console compartment door. If the vehicle is equipped with a Compact Disc (CD) changer, remove the CD changer cover screws (plastic), and remove the CD changer cover (Figure 1).

3. Remove the two (2) LH inner instrument panel lower cover screws and the plastic nut.

4. Remove the LH inner instrument panel lower cover and disconnect the foot lamp electrical connector.





5. Remove the three (3) timer module screws (Figure 2).

6. Disconnect the timer module electrical connector.

7. Remove the timer module from the vehicle.

8. Install the revised timer module by reversing the removal process.
